ARE YOU READY FOR SOME (FANTASY) BASEBALL?? |
Ok folks, I've set up a league in Yahoo.
If I remember correctly, the last few years the league has been a straight 5x5 rotary format, where you are ranked in 10 categories and the total is your score.
I thought that this year we might try something different. I set it up as a Head to Head league (seems appropriate for this crowd). There are 9 batting and 9 pitching categories. Every week your team will be matched up against one other team for the entire week and you will be assigned a win, loss, or tie for each category. In other words, at the end of each week you will have accumulated a combination of 18 W/L/T and this will be added to your season total. The standings will look like real standings with a team having a W-L-T record.
Starting in week 22 there will be playoffs. The top 8 teams will compete in the playoffs and there will be 3 rounds. This will serve a couple of purposes. 1) No team will be able to run away with the league title. 2) Even those with weak drafts, critical injuries etc. will have a chance to improve their team and make a run for the title. 3) hopefully, most managers will stay involved for the entire season because they will still have a chance.
I like to conduct Live Drafts. I chose Sunday March 8 at 5pm Mountain time (4pm Pacific, 6pm Central, 7pm East). The more people at the draft the better. If you can't make the draft, Yahoo will automatically choose players for you based on either 1) yahoo's pre-set player rankings, OR 2) your own player rankings. We will have 12 teams and 23 players per team (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, LF, CF, RF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL) , so that's a total of 276 players. I figured a Sunday evening would be the best time to get the most people to the draft. If this is a bad time for most of you, let me know and I will change it.
The league's name is "JERRY'S KIDS". Please have a GD related team name. My team is Deep Elem Bums. Smack talk is encouraged, but please do not make it too personal.

I've participated in leagues through this forum before (baseball and football) and had a blast - both competitive and fun. So, I'm in and I'm looking forward to it. I don't post here that often but I plan on becoming more active since I currently have some time on my hands (like a lot of people). I'm big on the TDIH mode of archive exploration and just enjoyed that '73 Chicago 2nd set - smokin' Other One > Eyes.
